B-17G View the Completion 9:00a.m.-Noon | World War II Hangar Building 3
August 17th is the 80th anniversary of the first Schweinfurt raid during WWII that witnessed significant losses and changed the dynamics of the air war in Europe. In conjunction with this anniversary, we will unveil the completion of our eight-year restoration on our B-17 Flying Fortress.
Viewing will be 9:00-Noon. Meet the B-17 restoration crew, ask questions and enjoy seeing the Flying Fortress up close and personal.
There will be a B-17G ribbon cutting ceremony in the World War II Hangar immediately following the Heritage Series.
Starting at 2:00p.m. | Century of Flight Hangar Building 2
This event begins with the stand-down of the 483rd Bombardment Group, a B-17 unit assigned to the 15th Air Force in Italy, as they shutter their Association. This ceremony will be performed by WWII reenactors. The 483rd Bombardment Group Association will briefly discuss the history of the organization and its dissolution. The group has been steadfast supporters of the Museum and they are honoring the wishes of their fathers with the close of this chapter.
