MAKING STEM CONNECTIONS

The National STEM Academy Educator Resource Center (ERC) features and provides STEM and NASA resources, professional development and volunteer opportunities to educators, families and the community free of charge.

2023-2024 Educator Workshop Series Schedule:

October 7 – Teaching the Economics of War and Space Exploration Social Studies teachers are invited to join us at the award-winning Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins, Georgia to look at our nation’s history of war through a unique lens. We will learn how to teach the foundational economic concepts found in our Georgia Standards of Excellence and then use those terms to help our students illustrate pivotal moments in U.S. times of war using them. We will also look at ways the U.S. space exploration program has impacted our nation’s economy.

November 4 – The (Not So) Hidden Wonders of the Museum “Experience both classroom and interactive education in our Mission Quest program. After learning the concepts of aerodynamics, navigation, and aircraft instrumentation, apply them as a member of an Eagle Simulator flight crew. After a successful flight, take a tour of the Museum of Aviation, viewing modern and vintage aircraft, each unique in design and mission.”

January 9 – Restless Earth and Human Civilization Up late, can’t sleep, well neither does our earth.  We will be looking at the earth as a whole (planet), seeing how everything is connected (Gaia hypothesis), how plate tectonics, climate patterns, biogeochemical cycles, and more have changed human civilization and the rest of life on earth and how we as humans have impacted the world around us.  Thought and skill will be needed to complete activities to take back to your students to get them to see the big picture of a restless and ever-changing earth.

February 10 – Solar Eclipse I: NASA Insights into the Total Solar Eclipse Path Dr. Samuel Garcia from NASA at Kennedy Space Center will share insights and knowledge about this celestial event.

March 16 – Solar Eclipse II: STEM Activities for All Ages Seeing Sol in a new light will look at some of the properties of the sun and its effects on the earth and biological organisms including magnetic fields, prisms, solar light uses and much more.  All the activities are designed to use easily found materials and can be modified for all ages. Get ready to have some fun and learn new ideas for the classroom.

April 13 – The Standardized Test is Over! …. What Do I Do with My Students Now?? The solution to the issue of what to do after standardized testing lies in planning fun and engaging activities that allow students to relax, breathe, congregate, explore new hobbies, reflect, and have fun.  After this workshop, you’ll no longer worry about what to do after standardized testing.

May 4 – Teaching in 3D! Participants will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in 3D printing as well as exploring how to integrate it into their lesson plans. All subject areas.

June 3 – 4 Robotics Institute I Elementary Grades educators will use technology to learn about circuits, programming, robotic parts, and functions during this exclusive 2-Day Robotics Institute that will be taught by certified STEM Instructors from the Educator Resource Center’s STEM Educator Ambassador Program. Various robotics kits will be utilized to support the STEM Curriculum Standards.  Participants will explore EVO Ozobots, Dash & Dot, Sphero Bolt, and LEGO SPIKE Essential!  All registered educators will receive a complimentary set of robotic resources for their classroom.  Space is Limited.

Exploring STEM Careers for Students

This program highlights cool career opportunities to raise awareness for workforce development.

Each program will include a live presentation from a National STEM Academy instructor and a live STEM demonstration.

The Cool Careers program is available to students in grades 6-12 and can be scheduled at the Museum of Aviation, “On the Go” at your location, or virtually.

Fee: FREE

Time: Lasts approx. 30 minutes
