Welcome!

upcoming events, museum of aviation foundation, nonprofit organization

Welcome to our new blog! Hopefully if you are reading this you are familiar with the Museum of Aviation. If not, take a few minutes to browse through the tabs above. There you can find out more about our location, history, hours of operation and some general visitor information. There are also website links on the right side of the page to the Museum of Aviation’s website, local community, government and some other websites of interest.

Most of the posts here will come from my desk so let me take a little time to introduce myself to everyone. My name is Arthur Sullivan and I work at the museum as a Curatorial Trainee. I was born in Houston County, Georgia and have lived here most of my life. My family has been in Houston County since the mid 1800s so to say we have roots here would be quite correct. I graduated from Valdosta State University (Go Blazers!) in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and am currently enrolled at the University of West Georgia working on my Masters in Public History. This past May I completed a Museum Studies Certificate at UWG. I will have been married to my beautiful wife Erin one year this July. My free time is usually spent outside mountain biking, running and playing any team sport that I can. Two little Dachshunds, named Tilly and Tank, are a big part of my life. As for history and aviation, I have had an interest in both from a young age. Growing up in the shadow of Robins Air Force Base taught me to appreciate the sound of jets and turbo-props. My father’s love for history, especially of the military variety, was passed to me in droves.

So, that’s a little about me, let’s talk about what you can expect from this blog. We here at the museum hope to use this site to provide an inside look at what we do here at the museum, a behind the scenes look if you will. There will be posts dealing with collections, exhibits and restoration as well as other subjects of interest. There are links along the right side of the page to the Museum of Aviation’s website, Facebook and Twitter. There is also a section on the right side of the page that will show recent Twitter updates. The museum links can be useful for day-to-day interaction with us, while the plan is to use this blog as a conduit for more in-depth information on select subjects, exhibits and research projects. There will also be a “Meet the Staff” feature that will be posted from time to time, highlighting a different member of the museum staff each time.

We want to use this forum to help foster an atmosphere of community and involvement with the museum. As part of that process we encourage comments, criticisms and feedback from readers. However, we do reserve the right to edit or delete comments as is seen fit. Any comment that is harassing, defamatory, abusive, threatening, harmful, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, or racially offensive will be deleted. Now is also a good time to mention our general disclaimer, which can also be found at the bottom of the home page. It states: “This blog is managed and written by museum collections and exhibit staff of the Museum of Aviation. The information posted here is reliable and accurate but should not be viewed as official information from the Museum of Aviation or the United States Air Force. The purpose of this blog is to provide a window into the collections, exhibits and restoration work that goes on behind the scenes.” Now that the heavy stuff is out of the way, let’s take a second to remember that the purpose of this blog is to provide a fun look at the museum and its workings. Thanks for reading and see you back here soon!

Museum of Aviation

The Museum of Aviation has grown to become the second largest museum in the United States Air Force and the fourth most visited museum in the Department of Defense. The museum is a place that honors our veterans and their families and reminds our Airmen of their legendary Air Force heritage.
