The Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins remains a world class facility, preserving the history of U.S. air power and fundamental patriotic traditions and housing a leading-edge educational program.

Nothing compares in the Southeast to the museum’s Science Technology Engineering Math curriculum offered to students in school systems throughout Georgia.

For more than 32 years, the museum has been a resource to the general public with free admission. Today it is considered the second largest U.S. Air Force museum and ranks fourth in visitation throughout the country.

Additionally, the staff and volunteers organize unique and fun events for the entire family that might be unexpected at an aviation museum. The events are usually free and offer a variety of experiences for people of all ages.

In fact, on Jan. 28-29 the museum will host Winter Wonderfest, sponsored by Flint Energies, Eagle Springs Children Center, Hunt-Miller Insurance Agency, Middle Georgia State University, Primary Pediatrics and Robins Financial Credit Union.

Winter Wonderfest is a extravaganza where visitors will see falling snow in Middle Georgia whatever the weather is like that weekend. There will be two large and one small snow tubing slides, a snow play area and ziplining. Mike Fuller the Magician will be on hand along with a trackless train, hay rides, petting zoo, horse rides, and bounce houses. Armbands are needed for all riders, costing $12 for ages 6 and younger; $15 for ages 7 and older.

A Food Truck Festival will also be going on during Winter Wonderfest, along with a craft fair and characters from “Frozen” walking through the crowd. The Attic will be open for those who want to kick up the fun level by experiencing the crawl-through maze. The fee for that is $7. Parking for Winter Wonderfest is across the street from the Museum of Aviation at Anchor Glass. For more details on this event visit museumofaviation.org or call 478-923-6600.

More museum events

Other events at the museum throughout 2017 are diverse and appealing for a wide audience. For runners and walkers alike, the marathon, half-marathon and 5K road race will be Jan. 14. For the young architects-to-be in the family, Lego League will be on Jan. 21.

The B-17 fundraising gala will be held Feb. 11 for those who want to be a contributing partner in sustaining the legacy of historic preservation at the museum. On March 27, the Brigadier Gen. Robert L. Scott Memorial Golf Scramble will be held. The Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame banquet will be April 29 followed by Murder Mystery Dinner Theater May 5, 6,13,19, and 20. Young Astronauts Day will be May 6, STEM summer camps on June 5-July 21 and the Auction/Raffle & Taste of Local Cuisine on July 15.

Museum events in the fall include the Georgia Invitational Volunteer Rally on Sept. 18, the Georgia Invitational Golf Tournament on Sept. 21-22 and Wings and Wheels Poker Run & Car Show Oct.6-7. The Nevermore Hills Haunted Trail will be Oct. 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31, followed by Murder Mystery Dinner Theater on Nov. 3, 4, 10, 11, 17,and 18. Kicking off the 2017 holiday season will be the annual Planes & Trains display Nov. 18-26.

To submit your event information contact Marsha Priest Buzzell, director of the Warner Robins Convention & Visitors Bureau, at 478-922-5100 or cvb@wrga.gov.
