Last minute donations helped the Museum of Aviation Foundation reach its $125,000 goal for the Brig. Gen. Robert L. Scott Memorial Golf Tournament held Friday, April 13, at Healy Point Country Club in Macon.
“More than 100 sponsors and individual donors helped make this 7th Annual Memorial Tournament the most successful one ever,” said Carolyn Crayton, tournament chairman. “The money is used to help grow the Museum of Aviation and sustain the education programs provided by the Museum of Aviation Foundation.” Last year the Foundation provided science, technology, engineering and math programs to more than 58,000 students, teachers and adults. U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss welcomed the golfers before the
morning tee-off and Major General Bob McMahon, Commander of the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center, addressed the group before the afternoon round.

The Boeing Company was the tournament’s single $10,000 Presenting Sponsor. There were 6 super sponsors, 8 tournament sponsors, 28 flag sponsors and 55 hole sponsors. Several spontaneous donations made at the closing ceremony also helped to reach the tournament goal, including a large personal donation from Gus Uzura from the Boeing Company.
Other dignitaries participating in the tournament were State Senator Ross Tolleson and State Representative Larry O’Neal. A committee of 50 Middle Georgia civic leaders chaired by Carolyn Crayton was instrumental in securing sponsors. The Committee Co-Chairmen were Oliver Bateman III, Marshall Butler, Gene Dunwody , Guy Eberhardt and Lowell Register. In the tradition of past tournaments, Crayton presented tournament “Ace” sport coats to committee members Oliver Bateman, III and Bob Mills at the closing celebration. |
