The AIM-9 Sidewinder is a supersonic, heat-seeking, air-to-air missile carried by fighters. It has a high-explosive warhead and an active infrared guidance system.
The Sidewinder was developed by the US Navy for fleet air defense and was adapted by the US Air Force for fighter aircraft use. Early versions of the missile were used extensively in the Southeast Asian conflict. Carried primarily by USAF A-10, F-15, and F-16 fighters the AIM-9 is still in service today.\ WR-ALC manages all AIM-9 missiles along with all other air-to-air missile types used by the USAF.
